In Her Shoes : Cheryl Samad

May 9, 2015

Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Cheryl samad_1One thing I wished I knew before becoming a mom
I wish someone had told me how much prepping it takes to leave the house with a baby!

My daily uniform
I’m constantly in Jeans,a comfortable top and a pair of flats i can run in.

My daily routine would be
I wake up before 7am and from then on I prepare meals, feed, bathe, clean, play, run errands and work, all with Stella around while trying to squeeze in some time for a sip of coffee! But I’m not complaining 😀

One thing I swear I’d never do as a mom that has gone out the window
I never wanted to give in to the whole ‘watch a cartoon on mummy’s handphone while mummy eats her meal’, but I have. It’s a lifesaver.
Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Cheryl samad_2Things that get me through the day
I just try my best to have as fun as possible when i’m with her. So if that means I need to shop for something, pay bills, or meet up with friends, I bring her along and hope for the best!

Favourite thing to do with my child
I love being in the kitchen with her. She loves watching me cook and recently she ‘helped’ me bake some scones. We both had a good laugh.

One thing I love most about my mom
My Mum is an extremely kind and affectionate person. I learned how to love from her

Cheryl is wearing Duma (royal blue)

Motherhood taught me
Motherhood has taught me to view everything with a sense of humor. I think if I had taken it all too seriously in the beginning when things were so hard, I might have lost it.

How I balance work with home life
Because I really enjoy my time with my daughter, I’m more selective of the jobs I take. I love my work, but nothing can top hanging out with my little monkey

What I want my kids to remember about me
I want my kid to remember me as a mother she could always count on.

A tradition with my mom that I want to share with my kids
My mother always had tea time with us. I remember she would bake us treats, then set up the table all nice and pretty and get us to sit around pretending we were at a tea party 😄

In Her Shoes: Nurul Syazana

May 5, 2015

Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Nurul Syazana_1

Syazana’s wearing the Duma (black)

Describe a perfect Mother’s Day.
Snuggle in bed with a good book or favourite book all day and an ice cream date after.

What is the name of your child and how old is he?
Rauf Harraz and he turns 4 in August

Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Nurul Syazana_2

Rauf ‘s wearing the lemon Nori top

Describe your day-to-day routine as a working mom.
Mummy and Daddy take turns to get Rauf ready for school and I’ll prepare a quick breakfast for the boys. After the boys have left for school and work I would then attend to my morning ritual; breakfast over Ellen Show, some chores and get ready for work. I would go through emails and organize my task for the day at home. I’d head to the studio at lunch and I’d leave work around 7.30 depending on my load for the day and I will then fetch Rauf from his grandma’s place. We have a 5 minutes radius between our place, grandma’s and the studio and we’d like to keep it that way 😊 We’ll spend some quality time before we tuck him to bed around 9. Husband and I will have a quick dinner, catch up and discuss work for a bit over our favourite shows before we turn in for the day.

How would you describe your motherhood journey?
It’s been a roller coaster. I had to learn the ropes of being a mum by myself during the first couple of years as my husband (Anis) used to go away for months at a time few times a year at his previous job. Now that I’m running the company with him full time it got even harder and we often find ourselves on constant survival mode. I read parenting books a lot and while they’re helpful, I’ve also learnt that there are no specific ways to raise a child. All mums are doing the best they can in the best way they could. We are also extremely blessed to have strong support system from my parents I could not thank them enough.

What was the one thing that you wished you knew before becoming a mom?
I don’t think anyone or anything could truly prepare you ahead. It’s one of those things you have to experience to fully know what you’re dealing with. Oh but there’s one thing I wish I knew, I wont be needing those fancy Diaper Genie.

How has your style changed since becoming a mom?
I find myself simplifying these days; I enjoy understated sophisticated clothing that is not trendy but timeless. I also had to change to accommodate these extra “curves”. I’ve learnt the art of dressing in clothing that disguise those least favorable areas that makes you look skinnier than you actually are. Work with what we have mummies 🙂

What are the three mom essentials that you can’t live without?
Husband, phone & books/toys
Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Nurul Syazana_3
Is there anything that you swear you’d never do as a mom that has gone out the window?

I could have sworn that I would never raise my voice with my child. Raising a matured, highly-opinionated and strong-willed 4 year old that never seemed to run our of energy is hardddd. Mummy often slipped and mummy’s really sorry Rauf.

Any tricks of the trade that you’ve picked up along the way?
Tell the truth and follow through. Rauf knows enough if he doesn’t clean up, those toys on the floor go straight into the bin bag.

What do you love most about being a mom?
Having someone teach you to love unconditionally.

What’s your favourite thing to do with your child?
Ice-Cream date Sunday

What surprised you the most about being a mom?
The level of empathy you’ve gained towards people.

What is the one thing about your mom that you love most?
Always seeking for the good in others
Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Nurul Syazana_4
If you could do anything for your child, what would it be?

Be present a lot more.

What has motherhood taught you?
That mums hold the power to the future. The changes we want to see in the world start within our children and ourselves

What do you want your child to remember about you?
I would like for them to follow their dreams no matter how silly they are, to celebrate being different, to always be kind

Did you have any traditions with your mom that you now share (or would like to share) with your child?
I don’t really have any but I would love to start baking for Sunday brunch with him now that he’s shown interest towards baking!

Ever since becoming a mom, obviously the children come first! Therefore, when it comes to getting ready, mom will have less mirror time & just grab whatever that’s there!

Is there anything that you swear you’d never do as a mom that has gone out the window?
Not to scream at them, because of course I do when everything is out of control!

Any tricks of the trade that you’ve picked up along the way?
When your child cries, always distract them (change the topic!). Train them young so that they’ll get used to it. This works for me all the time for all 3 kids

What do you love most about being a mom?
Looking at your child when they laugh, giggle & smile. It makes me feel so blessed!

What’s your favourite thing to do with your child?
To be on a vacation with them all. But our lepak/ chill/ guling session with the kids at home is also one of our favourite thing to do!

What surprised you the most about being a mom?
I had no idea that i would fall in love with all of them equally!

What is the one thing about your mom that you love most?
Her superwoman character! Her ability to do everything by herself! I mean everything!
Whimsigirl x Nelissa Hilman In Her Shoes Mothers Day Campaign_4If you could do anything for your children, what would it be?
I would ensure that everything is safe around them

What has motherhood taught you?
Motherhood is a journey of a learning process. It has taught me to always listen to your child, be patient always & be flexible! And the most important thing is that motherhood has taught me the meaning of unconditional love!

What do you want your children to remember about you?
I want them to know that I love them so much! & that I’m always here for them.

Did you have any traditions with your mom that you now share (or would like to share) with your children?
Mom would always make it a point for us siblings to sit down & eat together for dinner. I would want them to follow this tradition when they grow.
